Lash Adhesive FAQs
Choosing the Right Last Extension Glue
Both are professional-grade lash adhesives mindfully formulated for precise application, fast dry times, and long-lasting retention. The difference? Each of our adhesives is formulated with a different viscosity, or thickness. Additionally, we offer adhesives both in black and clear.
The Go-To Adhesive contains a deep black pigment that seamlessly blends with natural lashes for classic or volume sets. The Go-To Adhesive Medium Clear creates invisible bonds, making it perfect for clients with lighter-colored natural lashes or those wanting to experiment with brown or colored lash extensions.
The best lash glues are made with cyanoacrylate, the gold-standard ingredient trusted by professionals for creating strong, long-lasting bonds. Every BorboletaPro lash extension adhesive is formulated with high-quality cyanoacrylate to deliver fast curing, superior retention, and safe, consistent results.
Whether you prefer our carbon black or clear adhesive, both are mindfully made for lash artists who want reliable performance and beautiful retention—every single set.
All of our Go-To Adhesives can last up to five weeks with proper application and aftercare.
No, BorboletaPro's Lash Lift Adhesive is not made for lash extensions. It’s a water-soluble glue designed to temporarily adhere natural lashes to lift rods during a lash lift service. While lash lift artists rave that it’s "super easy to work with" and gives them time to perfectly position clients' lashes, our lash lift adhesive doesn’t create the same long-term bond as our professional lash extension adhesives.
How to Use Professional Lash Glue
If you want your clients to have the best retention possible (and we know you do), shaking your lash glue before every appointment is a must. We recommend shaking the bottle side to side (not up and down) vigorously for at least 30 seconds to ensure all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Pro Tip: A quick shake before each new glue drop keeps consistency perfect. If you have a glue shaker, 10–20 seconds is plenty.
For both volume fans and classic lashes, less is more. Dip only 1–2 mm of the lash (classic extension base) or 1/2–1mm (volume fan base) into the adhesive so that just the base is coated.
When applying volume sets, many lash artists use a fan cup for fuss-free precision and flawless fans every time. A fan cup is designed to hold just enough adhesive and attaches easily to your lash palette, giving every fan the perfect, weightless bond.
That depends on your lashing environment. As a general rule, replace your glue dot every 15–20 minutes, or sooner if it starts to thicken. Fresh glue keeps curing speed consistent throughout the entire appointment and helps with retention.
Pro Tip: If you’re lashing in a warmer or more humid space, you’ll want to swap your glue drop out every 10–15 minutes to keep it from curing too fast.
Storage & Shelf Life
Once opened, our Go-To Adhesive will stay fresh for 4 weeks. After that, exposure to air and humidity can affect how it cures and holds. Unopened bottles can last up to 8 months when stored properly.
Our Borby motto? Fresh adhesive is the best adhesive, so when in doubt, throw it out!
Pro Tip: To keep your lash station from running dry, set up adhesive auto-shipments and save an extra 5% on every bottle.
Keep adhesives upright in a cool, dry space away from direct sunlight. Our lash glues are happiest living between 68–72 degrees Fahrenheit (20–22 degrees Celsius) with a humidity range of 40% to 60%.
Unopened bottles love a cool spot—the fridge works great and keeps them fresh for up to 8 months. Let refrigerated adhesives reach room temperature before opening. After opening, keep your glue bottles at room temperature to keep the magic alive. Moisture from the fridge can enter the bottle and react with the adhesive.
Fresh adhesive should glide on smoothly and bond cleanly. If it starts to thicken, separate, or feel stringy and tacky, it’s likely past its prime. You might also notice slower dry time, poor retention, or a visible change in its usual color. Another tell? You used to get that satisfying "snap" of a perfect bond, but now it’s just not sticking the way it should.
Troubleshooting & Lashing Tips
Retention issues are usually environmental or technique-related. Check your studio humidity: If it’s below 40% or above 60%, the glue may not cure properly. Also, make sure your client’s lashes are completely free of oils, residue, or lash shampoo before applying adhesive.
Your adhesive is sensitive to its surroundings, and humidity makes all the difference. When the air’s too dry, dry-time slows down. Too humid? It can "shock cure," leading to weak bonds, premature fallout, and messy or clumpy-looking lashes.
Try these quick fixes: Use a nano mister sparingly, add a tiny drop of water to the eye pad, or tweak your room’s humidity with a humidifier or dehumidifier. The goal? Find that sweet spot where your environment and working speed align (and your glue performs like the pro it is).
Yes! A nano mister can help cure the adhesive at the end of your service, especially in dry environments. Bonus? Clients won't have to wait the usual 24–48 hours to get their lashes wet, and they’re less likely to experience irritation when they open their eyes.
Pro Tip: Just don’t over-mist. Too much moisture can cause shock polymerization (that’s science talk for white, clumpy lashes that shed prematurely).
If your nozzle's blocked, use a glue pin to gently clear the opening. Still stuck? Swap the nozzle for a fresh one if your bottle allows. And if nothing else works, it’s probably time to retire that bottle and opt for a new adhesive.
Best Practices for Retention & Application
Clean lashes mean better retention and a stronger bond with your adhesive. Ask clients to arrive with clean, makeup-free lashes: no mascara, eyeliner, or oil-based products. Remind them to avoid caffeine beforehand (it can cause eyelid fluttering, which makes extension placement difficult) and come ready to relax—lash naps are encouraged.
Dipping or scooping the very base of the extension or fan into the top of your adhesive dot is the first step. Ensuring that you're not using more adhesive than is required and placing the extension immediately after dipping will allow the extensions to lock onto the natural lash more quickly and form a strong bond.
Lash Health, Safety, Sensitivities & Removal
Yes! All of our lash adhesives are free from latex, petrochemicals, and formaldehyde. Translation? We only use the good stuff (safe, lash-loving ingredients).
While BorboletaPro adhesives are formulated with lash-loving ingredients and low fumes, all lash extension adhesives contain cyanoacrylate. For sensitive clients, we always recommend consulting with their physician before getting lash extensions. If you want to play it safe, try our clear adhesive, which is pigment-free and can be less reactive.
Safety Tip: For those who may be sensitive, apply a few extensions 24-48 hours prior to their appointment.
Immediately stop the service if irritation occurs during the appointment. If a client experiences sensitivity or irritation following their appointment, refer them to a medical professional. Do not remove lash extensions with adhesive remover while an irritation is occurring, and encourage clients to avoid touching or rubbing their eyes.
Before beginning, place under-eye pads to protect the sensitive skin around the eye area. Break the bond or banana peel apart, or use a professional-grade adhesive remover formulated for safe extension removal.
When using adhesive remover, apply it carefully to the lash extensions and leave it on for the allotted time. Allow the adhesive to fully dissolve and gently slide the extension off. After full removal, cleanse the natural lashes and apply Borboleta's Glow Up Elixir or Nourishing Lash Pack if you carry them.

Lash Lift Adhesive Use & Tips
Our Lash Lift Adhesive is a water-soluble, gentle bonding agent used to secure natural lashes onto rods or shields during a lift. It’s designed for flexibility and easy removal with water after processing—not for bonding lash extensions.
Use a thin, even layer on the lift rod and quickly position natural lashes before the adhesive begins to dry. Work in small sections to maintain control. A micro brush or Y-tool can help guide lashes smoothly and effortlessly.
